A staunch traditionalist, Enzo Brezza heads the operation here, crafting incredible wines from the small cellar located in the centre of the Barolo township. The estate has vineyard holdings dating back to 1885, with long maintained organic practices in the vineyard now being officially certified. The wines here are clearly aligned to the traditional style of Barolo. The wines see only large format oak and long maceration time on skins. Finesse, elegance, and transparent communication of unique soil types throughout commune are the hallmark characteristics that the estate is known for. Brezza has significant Nebbiolo holdings in the remarkable ‘Cannubi’ and ‘Sarmassa’ vineyards however of even more interest are the Barbera vines located in Cannubi and the Dolcetto vines located in San Lorenzo, locations usually not reserved for so called ‘lesser’ varieties, meaning extreme value can be find right across the spectrum of the estate’s offering. Sarmassa sits at an elevation 50m higher than Cannubi and is marginally cooler, usually being picked 3-4 days later. The clones are identical to those in Cannubi and winemaking is the same however slightly less sand and more calcium carbonate in the soils result in a more structured and darker wine. A powerful and Burly wine that reflects site and vintage, this is a wine bult for the long haul in the cellar that will show real staying power. Read More
